Sports has become an increasingly large driver of the Indian GDP since its high commercialization, such as the likes of IPL. High revenues combined with the short careers of athletes and the strict timelines for sports events has led to increased use of arbitration in sports, as a means for speedy and efficient dispute resolution. In this Insight, we identify where arbitration typically takes place in the sports industry, and what issues are typically in dispute, to provide a picture of how arbitration is permeating into the Indian sports sector.
