Gaurav is a Trainee at Singularity Legal. He holds a double LL.M in Investment Treaty Arbitration (2021) and Commercial Law (2024) from Uppsala University, Sweden. His range of experience includes advising clients in their cross-border disputes in arbitrations under various rules such as LCIA and UNCITRAL, and litigation before courts in India, Dubai and the DIFC. Further, he has also represented his clients in contentious disputes arising out of long-term electricity contracts and has previously advised clients on setting up solar power plants in India.

He has previously worked for a full-service law firm and an independent advocate’s chamber in New Delhi. Additionally, he has also worked with a prominent international arbitration institute in Stockholm. 

 

COMMERCIAL DISPUTES

Arbitration

  • Represented an Indian sporting league company in an arbitration under a shareholder agreement against an Afghanistan government entity (LCIA Rules, London seated, Indian law)
  • Advised the Government of India in an investment treaty arbitration under a memorandum of understanding for a mining project against a UAE company (UNCITRAL Rules, Indian law)  

Litigation

  • Representing an individual in his claims for wrongful termination, unpaid salary, and carried interest incentive entitlements, against a DIFC-based private equity (DIFC Courts)
  • Representing an Indian offshore construction company in proceedings against a Liberian company relating to the recognition and enforcement of an MCIA arbitral award, obtaining worldwide freezing orders, and contempt proceedings (DIFC Courts)
  • Representing and advising an Indian offshore construction company against a Liberian company in proceedings related to the setting aside of an MCIA arbitral award and a challenge to DIFC courts’ jurisdiction (Bombay High Court, Dubai Courts)
  • Representing an Indian offshore construction company against a Liberian company in proceedings relating to execution of an MCIA arbitral award (Bombay High Court)
  • Represented an Indian power generation company in its commercial and regulatory power disputes involving breach, repudiation, compensation for delay, and off-take obligations in long-term contracts (Indian Central and State Electricity Regulatory Commissions)
  • Represented an Indian solar power company in a regulatory power dispute for setting up solar power plants in the state of Odisha, India (Indian Central Electricity Regulatory Commission)
  • Represented an Indian share trading/market advisory company in challenging 6 arbitral awards rendered against it in disputes arising out of breaches of contract (Indian law, Gurugram district court)
  • Represented NOIDA in a dispute concerning homebuyers and construction of residential buildings (Supreme Court of India)
